Reply to the comment left by Mark Alexander at 04/05/2020 - 18:29I thought it sounded a perfectly reasonable structure, but too good to be true! From a look at the link, the diversion of revenue from sole trader to Ltd...
What about another form of Rent-to-Rent? No HMOs. No individual tenants subletting ad hoc. As a UK sole trader, I rent my twenty UK BTL residential properties en bloc to a Ltd Co of which I am a major/sole shareholder....
Do we really think small business bounce-back loans of 25% turnover will be available to landlords? I might be wrong, but HMRC don't view us as a business. Does anyone have any experience?
Many thanks Neil! I'll check the T&C's of the existing BTL products I have. I expect the biggest issue will be if I look for new BTL products whilst I'm non-UK resident? If I return to the UK, how long...
I hear that this scenario has headwinds from the revenue. But some use of a limited company (maybe up to 15% turnover?) might help a little. My goodness, we are really being pushed into a tight corner.

To clarify: -I'm not incorporating into a limited company. I'm letting all my properties to a limited company. In the lease between the company and me, there is no prohibition on the company subletting to whomever they choose. Why should...
This is a very simple structure. Disarmingly simple. It is certainly not a complex 'structure' of connivance to avoid tax. -Has GAAR ever really been invoked for anything remotely similar? -Was GO's plan to harass/persecute a section of society by...
Clause 24 is just awful. So a thought here: any opinions on variations of this simple structure for tax planning efficiency: -Let all properties in your portfolio to a Limited Company (eg. with a lease contract for the company also...
CGT - the 8% surcharge for residential property means two things for me: (1) Explicitly separate treatment of capital gains from property - a cultural change for the future? (2) Property sale gains may still be at charged at 28%,...

Last thought from a warm evening in Thailand - why Malta rather than Cyprus? I'm still mulling the preference I seem to have for Malta, some quick pros/cons: Malta>Cyprus: closer, more financially stable, more familiar culture & legals Cyprus>Malta: bigger
I expect to visit Malta in mid-late April. I've been looking at Hotels. Raddison in Mellieha, looks like the one for me in that area too. Or Xara Palace in M'dina and Hilton in St Julians. Not sure where works...

Blummin' stressful this: GO's clumsy tax on rental property. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a snap election after the June EU referendum, followed by a new Tory government which increases CGT to marginal income tax rates (the current...
A point of levity in this grim post: has anyone seen the PRS BTL changes proposed by Mr Corbyn were he to become PM? He would extend tenants' right-to-buy, at discounted prices, to the PRS. It cheered me up to...
