If the cost of council tax passes from tenants to landlords, then there as to be a reckoning. Landlords need to as a block increase rents simultaneously to cover this additional cost. If rents go up together, then courts cannot...
At present, those renting who are on benefits get some or all of their council tax paid for. Under this proposed system, that would no longer be the case, because the landlord would be paying. So rents would go up...
Reply to the comment left by Kevyn Jones at 12:30 Kev you had asked how would the properties be valued. Well I live in Northern Ireland, and we still have the old rates system (no council tax). Like you suggested,...
This is pretty much the system we already have in Northern Ireland. We did not go down the "council tax" route and still pay "rates" So as a landlord, I pay the rates on the properties I rent out. Rates...
Reply to the comment left by Jo Westlake at 24/06/2026 - 10:32You just highlighted the problem with the whole benefit system. Your tenant has an income of £4000 a month, and yet she is on benefits!!!!!! Disgusting.
I rented to a guy, who had most of his rent paid direct to me (low income support), and he paid me the rest. Then one day, I got a letter from the DHS saying I owed them £3500 I...
Why don't they offer to buy out landlords who want to quit............like me! They could even socialise the whole PRS. After all, being a landlord is a licence to print money..........right? They'll make so much profit, maybe they wont need...
Reply to the comment left by JB at 10:31 Exactly. In my own house I have carpet that I installed 15 years ago, still looks like new. But in a house I let out, I did a full decor refresh,...
Propertymark not unbiased here. They doubtless want masses of additional red tape, so that more landlords will give up doing things themselves, and hand the job over to management companies. Companies that Propertymark advocate for!
BY FAR.............the best way to improve the PRS in Northern Ireland, would be to introduce a TENANT register. There are about 30 rogue tenants to every rouge landlord. But they are allowed to keep wrecking properties and failing to pay...
In the same way the police will not help Landlords when tenants smash up our property (its a civil matter don't you know) we wont help police enforce criminal matters. And if we did, we would probably get sued!
Reply to the comment left by Rhett Costin at 27/05/2026 - 16:25Sorry, but you are wrong. MP's don't get London accommodation paid for, if they have their home there. The only reason they get it paid, is so that they...
Checking through the RRA to see if it applied to Northern Ireland (it doesn't) I found out that the is a "Rouge Landlord" database in N.I. Landlords have been asking for years to have a rouge tenants database, so the...

If BBC panorama was an actual investigative program, they could do an expo on how much government actions have increased rent over the last 10 years. But they aren't, they are lefty socialists. So they wont. Tax, fines and regulations....
