"claims the council has not seen a landlord exodus" Unfortunately the people who trot out this line always seem to be ignorant of the fact the exodus isn't a stampede but a long drawn out withdrawal with many LL awaiting...
This is GR making a lot of noise to justify their existence but in truth this is a complete non-story. Say for an average deposit of £1,750 It would have to be invested safely, so 1.25% below BBR = 3%....
I don't know if anyone else has seen the online advert advertising no win no fee solicitor "service" to tenants wishing to sue their landlords. This could absolutely destroy any landlord facing this.
I am fortunate to have an excellent tenant but If the 2 month compensation comes in, I will simply have to up the rent to cover this additional amount and explain to the tenant why I am doing it.
Here comes the next bandwagon for GR & Shelter to attach their flags to after successfully lobbying for section 21 removal. it'll be "greedy landlords taking advantage by demanding excessive rent rises" is the cause of homelessness. So onto lobbying...

To be fair to the Welsh government they do appear to be trying to understand the market before bring in their changes, I'm not sure the same can be said of the Scottish or English governments.
