I have rented a property through an agent for 14 years and now wish to self-manage. Managing Agent - Right or Wrong

I have given the required 6 months notice but now the agent is stating the original tenancy agreement is not valid because the agreement is between the agent and tenant and not with me directly.

Can anyone clarify?

    Are they kidding? Tenant is yours plain and simple, unless you offered it to them as a guaranteed rent scheme with them as the tenant with right to sublet.

    They sound like they are trying it on.
