Hello, Today I had a chat with a ‘middle aged’ lady currently in an HMO. The council pointed her in our direction some months ago, as they often do.
Her story is: She was evicted from a 2 bed local authority house she had had for a long time after accruing significant rent arrears once her children left home and LHA fell to the 1 bed rate. She says she asked regularly for a smaller place, however, due to the arrears the council were unable to assist.
On top of that she had the additional bedroom charges (bedroom tax). The debt is significant but being paid off.
The council have allegedly said she can go back on the housing list (or bid) after her debt is cleared.
My conundrum: How could I or she ‘move herself on’ in such a way as she is not ‘intentionally homeless’ once the debt is paid off and she wants to go back to the LA?
My understanding is that none of the available grounds under S8 would work?
This and similar, may become a more frequent issue as the RRA beds in over time.
Thank you,
Jim
