Michael Gove MP Famous for stabbing Boris Johnson in the front in the leadership campaign after the BREXIT vote is to head up the new government Department of Levelling Up Housing and Communities and is set to HALT the biggest planning overhaul ever.

Some Pundits claim his appointment is to drive through planning reforms already started by his predecessor Robert Jenrick as part of Boris Johnson’s Build Build Build strategy masterminded by Dominic Cummings including the radical zoning system.

In today’s interview with Planning Oracle Linda Wright we find out why Michael Gove is set to pause this contentious shake-up for at least 18 months if not longer.

Could it be Boris has given Gove a poison chalice to implement planning reforming and also responsibility for delivering election success?

Conservative backbench MPs fear they will lose their seat in the next general election if the planning reforms are not watered down from those already tabled.

Will Gove succeed in delivering planning reforms and an election win? – stay tuned to find out

Depressing if true. The only way to deal with high rents and a shortage of places to rent is to increase supply. That means more houses in Tory-voting areas (these generally being very popular with tenants). Sounds as if Gove is between a rock and a hard place.

I do agree with you. I feel Boris has manouvered this to repay Gove for stabbing him a couple of years ago

Indeed a thankless task, especially as solving the cladding/fire safety scandal facing hundreds of thousands of people has to be high on his priorities too (strange that it's not even mentioned above!)

Thats a really great point Ed and thank you for noting that

Goves department is so huge, I think I read that its the largest department any minster has ever managed

This article was about planning following on from the NPPF - we may have nodded to elections, levelling up etc but the focus was on the impact this appointment will have on the planning system changes proposed
