Firms signed up to the SAFEagent scheme are highlighting that landlords and tenants risk losing thousands of pounds in rents and deposits if an agent outside a money protection scheme shuts.

SAFEagent is launching a ‘week of activity’ beginning on May 14th until 20th May, aimed at raising awareness of the scheme with tenants and landlords.
As part of the week there will be national and regional events to increase the knowledge of landlords- especially first-time landlords– and tenants of Client Money Protection Schemes and their importance. Housing Minister Grant Shapps has urged letting agents to join a new money protection scheme for landlords and tenants.
Timing his support with the public launch of SafeAgent, the move is seen as massive support for the fight against rogue letting agents and a snub for the established Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA).
SafeAgent is an industry administered scheme aimed at safeguarding rents and deposits by more than 1,200 letting agents across the UK.

SAFEagent are near 1000 members
Around 1,000 letting agents have pledged to offer better protection to landlord and tenant monies by signing up to the SAFEagent scheme.
Letting agents can only join the scheme if the can demonstrate they take special precautions to safeguard client monies.
