A self-made North East property entrepreneur has launched a new consultancy and podcast in a bid to help other would-be developers on the road to a property career. In estate agent Tony Fairs’ podcast Property Talk on the Tyne, he will share his own tips from inside the industry, plus cautionary tales from new developers on their own journey and insight from billionaire big hitters with huge portfolios.

The first edition features an interview with Rich List member Alfie Best whose amazing rags-to-riches story took him from a childhood living in a caravan to a property fortune expected to tip £1bn by the end of the year.

Property Talk on the Tyne is now available on Spotify, Deezer and other popular platforms.

Born in Fenham and still only 33, Tony now runs his own successful estate agency Fairs Estates in Newcastle-upon-Tyne’s West Road, which oversees a growing £12m portfolio and has a staff of seven agents and a team of contractors. He also directs three property investment businesses.

He’s no stranger to broadcasting, having appeared several times on BBC hit auction show Homes under the Hammer and successfully showcasing his own property investments and transformations across the North East via social media.

His latest project involved transforming the fortunes of a rundown block of ten problem flats on Tyneside and turning a £210,000 investment into £400,000 for him and his partners.

“These days, TV property shows make investment look like child’s play, but it can be a minefield for the unwary. I am always being asked how to do it and there are things I wished I’d known when I was starting out, which is why I’ve started this consultancy and podcast.

“It’s unique because it is focussed on the market here in the North East, where investors can typically get more for their money. It’s for small investors who want to buy to give them a pension, or income or who, for whatever reason, can’t work but can invest. It will also be a huge boost for people outside the region who don’t have local knowledge.”

Tony went to St Cuthbert’s School, holds a degree in estate management from Northumbria University, and cut his teeth at some of the North’s biggest estate agency firms before striking out on his own.

His new consultancy firm help investors of all abilities from novices looking for their first purchase through to sophisticated investors looking to buy multiple units per week.
