Eyesore Extensions Must Go, Planners Tell Landlords

Planners are cracking down on landlords who have added extensions to 24 homes in just three streets without permission. Manchester City Council says 14 of the illegal extensions were built on properties owned by two landlords.

Islamic Bank Offers Buy to Let Loans for First Time

Islamic Bank of Britain has joined the throng as the latest lender to offer buy to let mortgages to landlords. The IBB will consider applications from landlords of any faith for a Sharia-compliant mortgage. The mortgage package is a 75% loan-to-value deal at 5.49% variable with a 1% arrangement fee.

New App to Help Contents Claims

Readyclaim.co.uk are making it even more difficult for landlords to avoid adopting new technology as they launch their new online asset management tool. Readyclaim believe their tool will make easier and more accurate insurance claims as users can take pictures of their assets and attach pictures of receipts or invoices to it.

Judge Strips HMO Landlord of £112,500 Illegal Rents

A landlord who defied planning laws to convert three houses in to houses of multiple occupation (HMOs) has been stripped of £112,500 in rents by a judge. Piara Singh Sehajpal ignored planning rules and turned three houses in 16 letting rooms and rented them out at £800 a month each.

1 in 7 Homes a Buy to Let … and the Number’s Growing

The number of buy to let properties has increased by 756,000 homes since 2007, according to the latest government housing statistics. The latest figures from the Communities and Local Government Department say landlords rented out 3.938 million homes in April 2010.
