ARLA Call on Landlords to Think Green

The Green Deal has fallen on deaf ears according to the latest research from the Association of Residential Letting Agents. The research found that half (51%) of the landlords questioned hadn’t heard of the Green Deal and over a third (33%) didn’t actually know the energy rating of their buy to lets.

An estate agent tried to make some money on the side by renting an empty home he was trying to sell. Your Move sales consultant Daniel Morriss, 25, advertised the two-bed house to let online as a furnished let for £500 per month without telling the owner.

House prices expected to stagnate for rest of 2012

House prices are stagnating and are expected to stay the same for the rest of the year, according to one of the UK’s largest mortgage lenders. May house prices increased 0.5% after a 2.3% drop in April to an average £160,941, says the Halifax.

Bank of England base rate remains at 0.5%

Hardly surprising, but still good news for borrowers is that the Monetary Policy committee voted to keep the Bank Base rate at 0.5% today. Of more interest though is the decision not to increase the levels of quantitative easing.

The two buy to let products launched recently are both two year fixed rates at 4.89% if you use BM Conveyancing and 5.04% if you use your own solicitor.

HMO landlord fined £5,500 for letting filthy home

The landlord of a filthy and overcrowded shared house was fined £5,500 after admitting 23 licensing and management offences to magistrates. Jan Assakzai 42, of Friars Road, East Ham, London, picked up the fine at Thames Magistrates Court and was also ordered to pay £300 legal costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
