Is it worth it after CGT?

Reply to the comment left by Mark Alexander at 29/11/2021 - 12:57
Hi Mark
BUT when I started (a long time ago) I was promised 0% CGT if I held them 15 years (by the government) so I invested lots and held them 15 years. I don't dispute the government can do as it wishes but it is still immoral and dishonest. The triple lock is just a more recent example. (as an aside) It would be easier if they just said "we want all your money bar a little for you to live on"... Read More

Straw Poll to combat further government attacks - Please help

All My houses are managed by an agent so I do not know accurately how many of them have even been in for > 3 years, but it is certainly more than 3. Again as most of mine are social housing, I again do not know if they'd even want to buy their own home (most of them think the world owes them a home so I'd guess its not high on the priority list.) Given all of that, on the basis of at some point in the near future I will be selling my portfolio (only because I am getting to the age that I can't be bothered too much anymore and also most of them are the famous west brom buy to let victory) so personally reducing my CGT in one fell swoop would be a good idea.... General Election 8th June - Who on earth do landlords vote for?

copy of letter to Edward Timpson my MP
Hi Edward

As we now have a general election looming I hope that you will be campaigning for the withdrawal of the Section 24 Act against private landlords (ONLY). As a landlord providing essential social housing I am appalled that I ( and other sole trader landlords ) am being singled out to be taxed on money that I pay for any mortgages that I have. In no other business are they singled out in this way and they are not taxed on money they pay OUT during running of their business as I do (even limited company landlords are not singled out this way!!) !. Everyone else in business can offset these costs against income.

I understand that this is the Conservative mantra but I do feel that this is a good time to stand up for basic principals of equality (as the conservative party are very fond of saying)

Is the FOS Fit For Purpose?

What a good result. I endorse all the comments and only wish I'd have had the support of a group like ours in my last dealings with the FOS If I had, the result may have been different. So onwards and upwards lets take the fight to the unjust bullies.

It was thousands well spent!! (especially as we get it back well less 600 to the cause)

Lets have more pledges to help those of us who have been unfairly treated... Read More

Bank of Ireland increase differential on tracker rates

Hi Folks

Being one of the investers in the west brom action I support your action against the BOI but be prepared (as we have ) to put hands in pockets. The reason I say this is because there are a few people in our crusade against the West Brom who have no affiliation to the west Brom but believe it is unfair and because they have seen our desire for justice being matched by us reaching for our cheque books have joined in with their cheque books. helping us no end (not just financially)

So be prepared and others WILL help... Read More
