Lisa Nandy reshuffled as replacement Shadow Housing Secretary
Lisa Nandy MP for Wigan has replaced Lucy Powell on Labours front bench after only being in the role since May as the new Shadow Secretary of State for the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
Lisa has had a tilt at the Labour leadership position and was previously the shadow foreign secretary. This would normally be seen as a demotion, but levelling up is a key policy for PM Boris Johnson and seen as an important area for labour to attack Michael Gove.
Kier Starmer said: “After 11 years of Conservative mismanagement of our economy, delivering prosperity to all regions and nations in the UK will be a defining mission of the next Labour government, and there will be nobody better than Lisa to lead this work.”
Lisa has so far been quiet on the appointment, so it remains to be seen what her policies on housing will look like, as she has not been a vociferous campaigner on housing in the past. However, she has previously committed to supporting the building of 100,000 social housing homes per year.
