An estimated 1,322 property investment portfolios are up for sale across England, with combined asking prices approaching £1.4bn.
London accounts for almost a third of that value, although the South East has more portfolios on the market, accounting for 16.8% of all portfolios available.
Research by residential property management specialist Rushbrook examined the number of portfolios advertised, their estimated asking prices and the combined value of listings in each region.
The firm’s managing director, Roma Sharma, said: “Buying an established property portfolio can be an attractive route for investors looking to expand their holdings without having to source and purchase each property individually.
“It can also provide the opportunity to acquire an existing collection of rental properties and tenancies in a single transaction.”
She added: “However, while acquiring multiple properties at once may streamline the purchase process, it also means taking on the responsibilities associated with managing those properties from day one.
“Investors need to understand exactly what they are buying, from the condition of individual properties and existing tenancy arrangements to maintenance requirements and regulatory compliance.”
The capital has £450.9m worth of investment portfolios advertised for sale, or 32.3% of the combined asking value across England.
That’s despite London accounting for 14.4% of listings.
Its average portfolio asking price is also the highest, at £2.36m.
By number of portfolios available, however, the North West ranks ahead of London, taking second place behind the South East with 14.8% of listings.
The North East has the lowest average portfolio asking price, at £477,987.
In the North West, the average is £588,649, rising to £599,219 in Yorkshire and the Humber.
Portfolios in the East Midlands are advertised at an average of £714,872.
The equivalent figure for the West Midlands is £833,871.
