Landlords, renters and homeowners in Leeds living in a property without gas central heating are being urged to apply for free or discounted home improvement upgrades.
Leeds City Council’s Home Energy Help team is working with energy services provider Everwarm to help residents benefit from £15.5 million of government funding.
The money must be spent by March next year and green upgrades include heat pumps, various types of insulation, solar panels and electric radiators.
The council says by tackling heat loss, homes can be kept at a comfortable temperature.
The council’s executive member for climate, energy, environment and green space, Coun Mohammed Rafique, said: “As a council, we’re determined to make it easier for Leeds homeowners and landlords to access the Home Energy Help they need to save money and cut carbon.
“Tackling heat waste from our homes is a win-win-win. It helps household finances, improves our health, and is good for the planet too.”
He added: “While some homeowners can afford to invest in energy-saving measures with the right financial and technical advice, we know that many others will need additional support to access the benefits of green home upgrades.”
Eligible landlords in Leeds will be able to install the improvements with a two-thirds discount, while homeowners can get free upgrades.
Applications for the scheme will be dealt with on a first-come, first-served basis and there is more information about the scheme on the council’s website.
Alternatively, those interested can call the council’s contractor about the new scheme on 0800 197 7755.
Every day, landlords who want to influence policy and share real-world experience add their voice here. Your perspective helps keep the debate balanced.
