My deposits was chosen because I held the deposit. If a good tenant they get it back ,sometimes even before they vacated, in order to pay their next deposit.
The deposit still has to be refunded if no damage was done and the tenant can fight for it if not returned, so letting someone else hold it makes no difference.
If a bad tenant let them sweat for it through all the tribunals.

With the DPS already providing custodial and insured schemes, it means that all three providers will be offering both types of schemes.
