Perhaps she would not be treated as a new BTL Landlord would be, and the mortgage is not for the purchase of the property as she already owns it?... Read More

Most BTL mortgage lenders will give you a mortgage until you are least 75 years old. You only require an income of over £2000. They assess the value of your property against potential rental value (not past profits). I use the Mortgage Works who have an extensive range of mortgages on offer to suit your needs. You require a broker in the first instance to arrange it. Going forward you switch to better deals online via their website. Investigate this option before you sell your biggest asset which will be increasing in value substantially over the years.... Read More

Thank you for your comment. I am aware of that. My Freeholders Agents words exactly are "professional working people", which is even worse I think. It does not alter the fact that despite any lack of prejudice on my part, I am not permitted to let to anyone in receipt of DSS payments. As my property is Leasehold and not Freehold, I have no option but to abide by the terms of my Leasehold. In my area most properties within Landlord's budgets are Leasehold flats.... Read More

Whilst I agree with the sentiments of this new "rule" and personally do not have a problem with letting to people on benefits, my Lease and my Freeholder clearly states that my property must only be let to "working people". What can I do? My hands are tied. I am only able to let my property with the permission of the Freeholder and his agents.... Read More
