Government forcing landlords to house non-paying tenants for lengthy periods

As an initial supporter of Larry and his Landlords Alliance, I was very suspicious when it was handed/taken over by the current management team. The emails seemed less frequent and the website was awful, neglected and out of date. I would get a so called newsletter which was simply a cut n paste from some other site and NOTHING original whatsoever.
I emailed them for an explanation - nothing! I tried to cancel my payment and the bank told me the RECEIVER had to do that! I told my bank they were not responding to my requests to do so and they suggested I tried again. I called their number multiple times - never answered at all. In the end I wrote a very strongly worded email threatening legal action and they eventually wrote back telling me my payment had been cancelled and they were ' sorry to see me go'.
I suggest Mark makes this a known issue - as how many will read this comment, so then at least others are made aware of the situation and at least this new outfit is defunded en masse.
I will try n make this a new topic too.
A pity really, as I believe Larry was really on the right lines initially.
Stay safe and take care folks

I think the 'Shelter as Guarantor' message is a fantastic idea. I have cut and pasted this from Shelter's website re Guarantors ..

"Some councils and charities have rent deposit, bond and guarantee schemes that:

give cash to help with rent in advance and a deposit
act as a guarantor service and cover unpaid rent or damage up to a certain amount ..."

... yes Shelter, and some charities DO NOT!

I reckon if all landlords take up this suggestion via their agents and respective websites it might cause a stir!... Read More

Try this ...
https://england.shelter.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/1846128/Annual_Report_2018-19.pdf

financial statement begins at page 80

I find it unbelievable that a charity partially funded by HMG lobbies against that same body ... talk about a self-licking ice cream!... Read More

Shelter ask for Landlords views

I suspect this 'Approach' from Shelter is a guarded response to the National Landlord Alliance being formed and making it publicly known that Shelter are in their sights. Amelia, I'm sure you have a balanced view but there is plenty of evidence of Shelter publicly vilifying landlords and tarring us all with the same brush because of a minority of toe rags within our sector. Call me sceptical but just as Larry n the rest of us are making headway with certain issues, Shelter now want to engage with us ... yeah right!... Read More

Should landlords have the right to refuse DSS tenants?

I don't see how we can be forced to offer anything to anybody once we have carried out our risk assessment/tennant enquiry!

If I went into my local BS or Bank for a mortgage they would carry out an affordability check. We, as PRS landlords are only doing the same thing. I can't go to Shelter et al. and complain that ABC Bank Ltd won't offer me a mortgage because I am on benefits!... Read More
