Free solar panels - has anyone got them?

I would be extremely wary. We had free solar panels fitted to our property which included a 25 year lease for the airspace above the roof. Fitted by a reputable company.
We did not have a mortgage so did not have to obtain permission from a lender.
We are now trying to sell the property and have had two buyers drop out due to being unable to obtain a mortgage as the lenders consider it is leasehold.
It is an ex authority, 2 bed house with half an acre. Built in the 1960's,
These sales have now been ongoing for six months.... Read More

Can the Housing Benefit Office Do This?

Good morning - Very many thanks for all your wise advice, it is very much appreciated. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or energy to keep on fighting. My husband went for a routine operation and came out of hospital paralysed in his right leg and his left kidney destroyed and now needs permanent care. I have been fighting his case for coming up to 3 years now. As I said before, we all went through horrendous times when my son was using. I have just been trying to do the best for my family and by being honest, stand to lose even more. I'm sorry if this sounds a bit self pitying, it isn't meant to be as I am usually a very positive person. I realise that this is not really a suitable comment for this site but just wanted to explain why I probably won't take it any further. I have also been down the appeal route before which I won but I never did receive the payments from the council.... Read More

Can the Housing Benefit Office Do This?

The reason stated for cancelling the HB are as follows: " I have cancelled benfits as you have supplied us with bank statements for the account that we pay Housing Benefit into, these statements reflect HB payments being issued and then payments being transferred to your son's account. From these statements it does not appear that an exchange of rental payment is required in order for James to occupy this property".
I have contacted a solicitor who advised me to go to Citizens Advice as he said the costs would be very expensive.
It would appear that I have no redress and will have to deal with it the best way I can.... Read More

Housing Strategy Key Points

Had a lady from Sheffield University visit yesterday doing a survey on what effects the new measures would have on landlords. Currently, my 3 properties (1 bed ) are let to social housing tenants and their rental allowance is £346.00 per month. The rentals are £400.00 per month which the tenant funds the shortfall. The area that these properties are in will have a new banding from 2012 and the rental income paid by the benefits agency will be reduced to just over £200.00 per month. The tenants are highly unlikely to be able to cover this shortfall. This does not make letting out these properties viable and I wil be removing myself from the rental market. I was not aware that any such reductions were to be made. As I have no mortgages on these properties, at that level of income, they will return me just under 2% without taking into account any costs or expenses. I might just as well put my money in the bank and see a similar return without any problems. I only have the 3 properties which were bought to make up our pensions. The sooner I am out of the market, the better.... Read More
