It was paid into my business account, i had moved it ( I thought id get some interest on it) but over 5 months of no claimed - I regrettably have had to use some, Not just my kids needing food, but tenants oven, Washing machine, gas certificates etc. I hoping they don't want it back all at once. But at the moment UC are not paying me. So I'm using it sparingly.... Read More

DWP Pensions Minister has not got a clue how Universal Credit works

Ive read all entries on here and would only add, as a landlord I have been paid over £9k over a period of months which is not for any of my tenants. I've told them starting about 4 months ago. The delay was because I had tenants who were claiming UC and agreed to pay direct to me. So I had to work out who, where the extra monies related too. UC couldn't tell be due to Data Protection. Unsurprisingly UC want their monies back. Conversely, I have had to claim UC as my only income, rent - has dropped. and they wont pay me because I've got £9k in a bank account. The same £9k. I have written, emailed and phoned and had many conversation out dog walking, at home with children, in the middle of dinner, basically working from home and not able to help after 2 hour waiting. I have now just passed to My local MP. I had started a discussion on here earlier when this started, to see if there was any ideas!! Or options available. Do I but food and get shoes for kids and reduce the £9k and then it'll allow me to legitimately get the UC I think I'm due.... Read More

Landlord fits new high efficiency boiler in under 24 hours despite tenant owing rent!

O dint think "simply get them to apply for UC" is not always as simple as stated. Some tenants Bury their heads.

I do also have a tenant who owed over 5k outstanding rent. We are going through the first tier tribunal but covid has hit meetings and timings. But in the meantime I've had to fit a new cooker and washing machine. Not to the same cost of a boiler but, if your not getting rent back it all counts.... Read More

They have now requested £nearly £5k back, but the reference number they gave ( although they cant say who it is for (data protections)) only adds up to £2k - Ive gone through another 3 hours tryingt o contact someone, who isnt working from home, or that passes me onto someone else who eith doesnt know or cant talk about it due to data protection. Advise please. Should I just bury my head until they start legal proceedings?... Read More

DWP culpable in ensuring landlords are out of pocket for 12 months?

Im going to be out of pocket for ages. When a few tenants went in furlough, and started the process to get some relief via UC. it was all fine, i received rents and could pay my expenses, mortgages trades etc. However 3 months ago, when the first payment came through the reference number given or the amounts shown - I could not relate the payment to which tenants rent. I did immediately contact DWP and got the usual bumped around here and there. Eventually told they couldn't tell me who monies belonged to as it was a date protection thing. now 3 - 4 months on I have a letter from DWP they've overpaid me !! Wait for it nearly £5,000 and I have to pay it back. Trouble is because it wa in the account it paid the mortgages and if that money was not from or for my tenants I am now left short on income from rents and I know I could have kept the rents seperate to repay it if it was wrong, but I had no reason to think it was wrong. I've tried contacting many folk but to no avail. Anyone else experience this ?... Read More
