Time to cut and run?

Flats have an awful habit of being first to fall when market rises and last to ride when market on an upward curve
I bought a flat in 1994 and in the intervening period its value has been up and down like a rollercoaster but the income has always outstripped both the mortgage payments and management charges.
My gut feeling, being a retired financial adviser, is you should never ever purchase an investment of any kind, thinking in a predefined period, you can sell at a profit.
I always advised my clients to spread what they invested over as many asset classes as possible because history shows, when one or more are down in value at least one will be hugely up
So depending upon your overall range of investments I would never recommend you sell at a loss as that amount has to be either repaid from savings or, a loan taken out, further depleting your asset base
Try to pay more off the mortgage, as most lenders will allow, so you get rid of the debt sooner putting you in a better position to be in charge rather than outside forces.... Read More

Spain has abandoned any pretence of respecting private property rights

Living in Andalucia as I do in an inland village I can confirm the validity of this.
Town Halls don't like rough sleepers so actively inform them of empty properties particularly if they are owned by foreigners.
Dutch couple in our village had a property for air nb rental and when he was back in Holland squatters entered despite having a steel door and took him 8 months to get back.
A British couple have a holiday home and they came over and a father and daughter were sleeping the house!
Fear UK moving in the same direction as set out in the OP as helps to get people off the streets.... Read More

Fast track to add 2 more storeys

Got a lot of worries about these changes as opens the doors to some monstrosities being foisted upon people as even where strict planning laws have been in place some truly dreadful buildings have been constructed.
This light touch approach has echoes of what happening in Financial Services twenty years ago and we all know what happened in 2008.... Read More
