Soldier On Property Training Course Committed Suicide

There's a crucial difference between the two - you can't call yourself a university, charge £9k and then hand out whatever certificate you want at the end whereas with property training (or other wealth training) you can do pretty much whatever you want.
As landlords, we're coming under increasing pressure and scrutiny due to the problem landlords, yet they continue to ignore the rules and generally get away with it. I hope they do a better job regulating training, as it's now hard to tell the difference between the good trainers and the con merchants, apart from the good trainers probably promise less, charge more (or at least declare it's more at the start) and end up with few students. Having been to a free event and putting up with the very hard sell on the 2nd day, I doubt I'll ever pay for any training now, which limits me and doesn't help the professional trainers.... They can - set one up recently for my 14 yr old. He's thrilled! Not sure why I hadn't realised it could be done sooner, so my daughter missed out completely.
One thing to note is that they'll be older than 55 when they can get it and by the time it comes round, could be a lot older. Still a good way to start them thinking long term.... Read More

Would two baths and two beds give a better return?

You need to look at the likely renters and future buyers. If it's professionals sharing a house, then 2 big beds and 2 baths/ensuites probably works best, as no one will want the tiny bedroom and not sharing a bathroom is a plus. If it's families, they're less likely to want the bathroom over the bedroom.... Read More

Labour want to tell you when and how much to sell for

He also wants to take 10% of the shares of companies and give them to their employees, so he'll crash the stock market and ruin pensions as well. Might be time to move any investments into overseas stocks...
Not sure what happens when those employees sell their shares back on the market - does he just keep stealing shares up to 10%? Luckily he'll run out of other people's money before he could do half of what he wants to... Read More

Salford council launch social letting agency

We have some properties in Salford, so thought I'd ask the council about this non-profit service they're offering. Bog standard management is 10%+VAT. If you want the rent guarantee (which I suspect is just the usual rent guarantee insurance, but for tenants who wouldn't pass the tests) it's 15+VAT. They do include a repairs service, but it sounds more like finding a tradesman rather than them paying the costs.
I must remember to ask my letting agents how they manage to charge the same or less AND make a profit!... Read More
