Calls to scrap direct payments

Reply to the comment left by Mick Roberts at 13/11/2018 - 20:58It took 6 months to get payments direct and that was only after I made a formal complaint of direct discrimination. The UC47 has to be submitted online via a secure email, which I and many people do not have! Then if there are any changes to the claimants circumstances their benefits are stopped so even with direct payments there is no guarantee of rent being paid. It's a complete nightmare for anyone involved and I for one sadly will no longer be offering properties to benefit claimants. So even councils will have tenants in arrears, no one escapes this mess.... Read More

Croydon Council Support S21 Ban

I must admit being a small private landlord is looking more and more unattractive each day.... Read More

Will Shelter sue Birmingham City Council or letting agents and landlords?

I also think they failed to address the fact that it is almost impossible to get direct payments for rent from Universal Credit. I have been trying for 5 months now to get rent for one of my tenants. It is made as difficult as possible, UC47 have to be submitted electronically via a secure email address, if you don't have a secure email address a posted hard copy UC47 take months to process, meanwhile those who offer tenancies to all are stuck in an ever decreasing circle of arrears and eviction processes. Leaving them after the incredibly expensive experience reluctant to rent to benefits tenants.

Private landlords are NOT to blame for the shortage of social housing, we didn't sell them off! We also don't stop people from getting on the housing ladder by buying up affordable housing! There are so many of us out there who do provide good, decent affordable accommodation and look after our tenants whether they are benefit claimants or not.... Read More
