Foreign Property Income but no UK tax return?

Hi Nigel,
The requirements can be a nightmare to deal with yourself if you don't know it all.... I have property in both the UK and Aus (reside in Aus) and would not even consider attempting to deal with the tax on the foreign properties myself. I recommend you not only use an accountant, but a specialist who also understands the tax system. I use an Aussie company (GMTax) who do both aussie and UK tax returns, they are a specialist in this field and would be well worth contacting.

Holiday Let or Buy to Let?

Unless you live close by you really need to use a good agent - we've had cleaners not show up/call in sick last minute, if it's part of the agreement for the agent to coordinate this they will sort another, if it's yours you need to find one or go do it yourself.
The house needs to be fully furnished to a high standard - recommend having your chosen agent advise on what furniture to provide (double/single/twin beds etc).
It definitely has it's benefits and you end up maintaining the property really well so know its in a good condition for you when you want it back, the rental rates are great (mine was Devon). But it doesn't suit everyone and there is a high start up cost.... Read More
