Coronavirus - What Landlords need to know

Reply to the comment left by David Lawrenson at 25/03/2020 - 11:23
totally disagree, rents will rise as more people go bankrupt, the PRS has contracted due to the financial penalties the government imposed, house prices will stagnate for period just like during brexit, but look how they took off this year after things were finally agreed for the moment.

your comments on civil liberties is ridiculous, this thing is killing thousands, left to itself it will kill millions, for the sake of my father and elderly friends I am happy to comply, not only that I do not want it.

We are living through unprecedented times, cannot compare to 1918 as the world bears no resemblance to those times. Watch and wait is all we can do.... Read More

Police blamed for allowing Anarchy to rule in the PRS

absolutely correct on all points but dont blame cops, its a fine line between damage and civil issues, the DCC of cleveland police, a small force, just tweeted in a week the had 1000 calls for service, its is a very run down area. Even an alleged easy call can take hours, ie a missing person can tie up several officers for days, a simple RTC again hours, so by the time you look at how many are on duty over a 24 hour period, its around 140 cops for the whole county, their numbers have dropped by thousand, in this tory government. Not excusing but things like using mobile phone tickets have dropped through the floor. but going back to being a landlord, its hard being responsible for other peoples living conditions, a real responsibility and I dont think a lot of people realise that when they take this role on, its like looking after extended family... Police blamed for allowing Anarchy to rule in the PRS

Goodness gracious so negative, I have three properties with lovely tenants, I bought properties I would live in and therefore can get the best type of tenant. The police are NOT to blame for your woes, the government is. The police are too busy running around after missing/suicidal people for one thing. I am aware of a property going to auction which was bought in 2008 for 80K. It is not the nicest of areas, but was a good house, the guide price is 33K, due to it being destroyed by druggies, prob on benefits. I have some sympathy with the owner but also know that the type of person he would get in would have some social issues, it is not rocket science. I read these comments and think am I doing the right thing staying in BTL but I could not think of evicting any of my tenants so am stuck with it at the moment, I think my negativity towards it comes from reading and seeing other peoples horror stories, surely these are not the norm?...
