With the revenge eviction law, you won't be able to evict for 6 months after the receipt of the council notice. You can then issue a notice after that period has elapsed, so the earliest you can get them out...
The worry is that lenders would force landlords to sell or put them through a margin call. It's all in the T&Cs - lenders can call mortgages in any time.
Look also very carefully at if they might be eligible for housing benefit - you may be able to estimate yourself based on your knowledge of their situation with the online calculators available. Many people will tell you never to...
Careful on the value of the properties - if they are greater than £500k on aquisition, from 1st April 2016 properties in the higher tax bands will attract the "Annual Tax on Enveloped Properties" if they're not let out (I...

Might be worth pointing out that: The US, Japan and Spain allows full interest reduction for OO (up to a certain allowance) - so you can't really compare these. The "playing field" between OOs and owner occupiers is the same....
I'm no lawyer, but sounds more like you're after a short leasehold flat/house. In exchange for a fairly hefty lump sum to the freeholder, you'd gain all the rights you're after and a lease would be created. It could even...
