I think the Government have their bog standard responses on auto response, we will make very little progress now I think. Happy to be corrected.change

So, I thought it might be good to let the tenants know what is coming their way and ask them to step up.

https://www.change.org/p/the-chancellor-of-the-exchequer-protect-uk-rental-tenants-from-increases-in-rents-or-possible-evictions

So please pass this on to your tenants, any friends you have in rentals, anybody you know who is currently renting. We must all know somebody!

Please pass it on. These things really do work but we need the numbers.

Cheers and fingers crossed everyone.

Pam

I am trying to sign via the link and it is just impossible. This page does not seem to be working properly!

That's weird, it works fine for me.

Here it is again:

If you manage it don't forget to leave your feelings on the subject in the comments section, I've been tweeting them straight over to Philip Hammond, et al.

Thank you Pamela,
I will try tonight from home, maybe my office computer is blocking something. I tried a number of times and it looks as the sign button is not active.
It is a brilliant idea - the only worry is it is a bit too close before Christmas, Even the activity on this site is slower than usual.

I will share the petition via my Facebook page.

Yes I know, the Christmas thing and also the Brexit thing. I am struggling to think of anything other than good planning on the part of the Government that the Treasury Select Committee Meeting to which Dame Kate Barker was invited was held at the same time as the big Brexit debate in the House. If you watch the video you can see they are talking to an empty room.

But I'm getting it started now and am hoping it will build momentum as we get closer to April 17.

Cheers

I've signed the petition Pam but I think many may be put off by you asking for full address and emails.

Hi Paul

Thanks for the heads up, I hadn't realised that people were asked this, not having signed it myself obviously. I'll go and check the settings and see if I can get that bit stopped. Although I suspect it's something to do with data collection and the selling on of data, which of course means that people will be receiving even more junk mail and also probably means they won't let me stop it.

Ho hum - as if the hill we're climbing wasn't big enough!!

It might be so that the petition can be validated to make sure it is actual people completing it and not someone just sticking loads of names on it.

Petition about to reach 500 signatories which is great but we'll need a whole lot more if we're going to get it talked about.

I am tweeting some of the comments that people are leaving to Hammond, May, Rudd, Ellison, Corbyn, Abbott, McDonnell, Farron, etc. in the hope that they will eventually tune in and catch the mood of the people.I've tweeted the campaign to some of the top political journalists, economists, and even some celebrity landlords (Robbie Fowler and Daniel Radcliffe no less!)

I have also written to Jeremy Vine, Mathew Wright, BBC Business, GMB, Piers Morgan to ask if they could include a debate on the subject on their shows.

I've shared it on LinkeIn, and Axe the Tenant Tax on Facebook and have sent the link to a number of tenant organisations, and homeless organisations.

I am pretty much making it up as I go along so if anybody else has any ideas about how I can keep the momentum going then that would be cracking. Thanks

Dear Pam,
thank you for doing this.
I think after Christmas something similar could be launched via 38 degrees. I think they have a huge base of supporters.
What do the others think?
Would that be too much?

I think anything is better than nothing and if it saves my poor little fingers then all the better!

Don't know much about 38 Degrees but I will look into it but, as you say, better after Christmas when people are less distracted and stressed out with credit card bills so the reality of a rent rise or eviction is going to sound a lot louder than it does at the moment perhaps.

It's all in the timing, as the Government well knows.
