A Sunseeker Day On Malta’s Sam-K

Sam-K, an 86 ft. Sunseeker Motor-yacht, is being pitched as the leader in its class for Mediterranean charters. This is my story of how my wife and I managed to spend a day on this magnificent vessel.

Some business friends and I took a walk around Portomaso Marina earlier this week, which is where Sam-K is moored, and whilst doing so I bumped into my old friend Captain Roger Jacobsen and his lovely wife Peggy who is Sunseeker’s Head Stewardess in Malta. They are a South African couple we had the privilege of meeting on a one week charter of a much smaller motor-yacht 5 years ago. That was a present from a happy client. It’s a hard life, but somebody has to do it! 😉

To our delight, Roger and Peggy invited Svetlana and I to join them on Sam-K this weekend for a Social Media photo shoot. We met  former winner of Britain’s Top Model and winner of Miss Universe 2017 Tiffany Pisani, as well as three other models and some Italian businessmen. Before you go there, no the businessmen were not Mafia! They didn’t speak very much English but they were very polite when we ate dinner with them on the top deck whilst watching the sunset, which words cannot describe.

I couldn’t imagine owning a boat in this class, but to charter her, fully crewed, for €10,500 a day, is probably within the reach of many medium size successful businesses and the upper middle classes, particularly for special occasions. However, on this occasion, Svetlana and I were there as ‘flies on the wall’. We did feel a bit like spare parts at first, with the models getting all the attention. The Isreali Social Media lady directing the photo shoot didn’t see much value in me posing as an Oligarch (LOL), she much preferred the beautiful people, so we were ushered inside whilst the drone was flying over and the cameramen and videographer were doing their thing. That’s not really what I am used to, I would much rather be the center of attention, but I cannot complain, it was a freebie after all. To be fair, freebies on yachts like Sam-K are few and far between, so the truth is that we felt extremely privileged.

We spent 12 hours on Sam-K, coiffed plenty of wine, devoured the delicious food and floated around some of the most spectacular scenery in the Mediterranean, which is my opinion is the Maltese Archipelago.

It almost goes without saying that the Sunseeker crew and the boat were nothing short of exceptional. The question for me though, having now experienced this lifestyle, is would I actually invest in a Charter myself?

My answer is a resounding YES.

OK, it’s not cheap, but what better way to spend a day entertaining business clients or celebrating a special occasion with loved ones?

Creating fond memories is one of the best personal investments ever. You and your guests will talk about memories like these long after your new cars have gone.
