Dear [insert your MP’s name]

There is a major discrepancy in the treatment of SME’s in regards to relief at the point of incorporation if a business (ie moving to Limited company status). The problem specifically is Stamp Duty Land Tax.

Relief exists to alleviate Stamp Duty when a partnership transitions into a Limited Company status. The legislation is

FA2003/sch15 as amended by FA2004/Sch41.

However, this legislation does not apply to sole owners of a business, which seems particularly unfair and is restricting the development of UK businesses.

Would you please support a motion to have this matter addressed, preferably by bringing this matter to the attention of the Chancellor ahead of the Autumn 2018 Budget?

Yours sincerely
