Buy to let investors Neil and Louise Bonner are selling the childhood home of ill-fated Titanic skipper Captain Edward John – amid claims the house is haunted by him.

Tenants have reported a series of spooky events in the house, including a mysterious kitchen flood and an icy chill in the dining room.

Some claim to have seen the ghost of Captain John in the main bedroom.

The two-bed terraced house in hanley, Stoke-on-Trent is on the market for £80,000. The couple bought the property for £35,000 in 2002.

“Some years ago a tenant rang up one day convinced he had seen the ghost of the captain in the bedroom,” said writer Mr Bonner, 64.

“No one has moved out because of the ghost, but several tenants have reported spooky goings-on ‘Some have said they felt a really cold chill passing over them.”

Meanwhile, a couple in Toms River, New Jersey, USA, have filed a law suit against landlord claiming a poltergeist has forced them to flee their home.

Slamming doors, flickering lights and eerie voices whispering ‘let it burn’ scared them into breaking their tenancy agreement early – and now they want their rent and deposit back because they allege the landlord should have told them about the house of horrors.

The landlord, who wants to remain anonymous, dismissed their claims.

“They just can’t afford the rent and are making the story up,” he told local reporters. “No-one else has ever had a problem with the property and I have let the house out for 10 years.”

Paranormal investogators have spent some time in the house and disagree – claiming the property is haunted by an intelligent entity.

Lawyers don’t think the tenants, Josue Chinchilla and his fiance Michele Callan, have a ghost of a chance in court.

“The case will be dismissed out of hand,” said attorney Lance Freeburg. “They can’t prove there’s a ghost and even if there was, they can’t prove they didn’t bring it with them.”
