During the past 10 years Birmingham has undergone a huge transformation as a result of significant growth and investment, which has made it a vibrant and prospering city.  The 20-year Big City Plan for Birmingham is the most ambitious, far-reaching development project ever undertaken in the UK.  As part of this Plan the city is receiving billions of pounds of infrastructure investment, with new tram lines, office blocks and public squares as the city is remodeled.  The aim is the create a world-class city.

The Big City Masterplan divides the now much bigger city into seven districts each with its own distinct character.   Digbeth is one of these seven districts named in the masterplan and is undergoing a large redevelopment scheme that will regenerate the old industrial buildings into apartments, retail, offices and arts facilities which will bring transformation to this area of Birmingham.   It is envisaged that this will create up to 50,000 new jobs.

The outlook for Digbeth is promising, with plans for HS2 well advanced and the recent publication of the Birmingham Curzon HS2 Masterplan.  An area of the city with a vibe like no other.  Digbeth has been branded as Birmingham’s Shoreditch and is a hotbed of creativity and energy.  Digbeth is within easy reach of Birmingham’s most iconic postcodes, which includes: Grand Central Station (10 minute walk), The Bullring (10 minute walk) and The Mailbox (15 minute walk).

Two high-speed 2 (HS2) rail terminals are being built in central Birmingham and nearby Sollihull, which are set to open for use during 2026, bringing the capital that bit closer to Birmingham.  This will reduce the travel time to London to only 38 minutes.  The metro expansion, which will run from outside New Street to the end of Broad Street will also open-up further sites for housing and regeneration in the city.

More than 1,500 build-to-rent apartments are currently under construction in Birmingham, and over the next year it is forecast that more than 1,000 more will commence building.

Birmingham is one of Europe’s youngest cities, and approximately 80% of city centre residents are tenants, which will continue to drive demand for high quality rental accommodation within the city.
