During the past 10 years Birmingham has undergone a huge transformation as a result of significant growth and investment, which has made it a vibrant and prospering city. The 20-year Big City Plan for Birmingham is the most ambitious, far-reaching development project ever undertaken in the UK. As part of this Plan the city is receiving billions of pounds of infrastructure investment, with new tram lines, office blocks and public squares as the city is remodeled. The aim is the create a world-class city.
The Big City Masterplan divides the now much bigger city into seven districts each with its own distinct character. Digbeth is one of these seven districts named in the masterplan and is undergoing a large redevelopment scheme that will regenerate the old industrial buildings into apartments, retail, offices and arts facilities which will bring transformation to this area of Birmingham. It is envisaged that this will create up to 50,000 new jobs.
