£7,500 chapel was cheapest property sold in March

The cheapest property in England and Wales sold for just £7,500 in March.

The stone-built Methodist Chapel in Felindre, Knighton, Powys, is a derelict building in the main street of the small Welsh village.

The most expensive home sold in March was Southdown House, Amberley, Arundel, West Sussex, which changed hands for £11.8 million.

The property, boasting three bedrooms, three bathrooms and two receptions was bought by the current owners in May 2005 for £1 million.

Overall, March house price data for England and Wales from the Land Registry showed values were down 0.6% from February.

The average home price is £162,370 – although only detached homes came out as more than this figure at an average £251,112. The average fore semis, terraced houses and flats was £153,080, £122,075 and £149,229 respectively.

Although prices were generally down, London outperformed the rest of the country with values going up 0.7%. The North-East returned the highest monthly increase by increasing by 5.6%.

Wales returned the greatest annual loss – with prices dropping 5.5% – while the monthly price fall was 4.4%

More than 55,000 properties changed hands in England and Wales in March – up 13% on the same period last year.

You might as well have not mentioned England in the 'cheapest property sold' statement. For that price, you know it's not going to be an English property.
