I have received below an email from a company who were going to improve my rented houses for FREE. All I have to do was to comply with certain requirements ( which I did ) and give £150 per property which would have been refunded at the end…….. Government ripping Landlords again

We are writing to inform you that the Conservative Government have announced on Thursday 23rd July that they have closed the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund for all new applications with immediate effect.

We are aware that you have complied with the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund’s scheme requirements.

In doing this you were in a position to make an application.

The Conservative Government’s announcement is silent on what customers who have paid for these services are to do.

What can you do next?

We would urge you to make contact with the Department of Energy and Climate Change on either 0300 123 1234 or their website: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/department-of-energy-climate-change and enter into discussions with them on how you can recover the costs you have incurred in meeting their requirements for making an application.

Also, we advise that you contact your local counsellor and/or your local Member of Parliament so that they can take up the matter with Amber Rudd the Secretary of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change on your behalf.

Has anymore else received a similar email and what can we do? It must affect 000’s of Landlords…

I'd say to not expect the £150.00/property back.

As I understand it, anyone who already has a Green Deal application (That may actually be approval) in place will still get the funding. Did you actually have the funding in place?

Not 100 % sure. They were about to start work which I would have thought that the funds were agreed. ...I need to check this out. From what you're suggesting if they have agreed to it then I should be eligible for the work to be carried out ?

If the funding is approved they wouldn't take the funds and walk away would they? I'm sure they wouldn't!

I'd bet the £150.00 was for the in-house admin and they will claim that has already been completed and therefore requiring payment (i.e. no refund due), regardless of what stage you're at.

ECO was fraught with similar problems -thousands of jobs went unpaid.

Hi Luke, they said it was a refundable amount and it would cost me nothing...... I am chasing the local MP for his side of the story....

I have 47 properties in individual names.
It is impractical (cost prohibitive ) to transfer all into an SPV.
I am doing what I can and that is issue section 13(2) with proposals for a 5% increase in rents starting in October. My rents have traditionally been below market rate and some have not been reviewed in 5 years. The tax changes are what I needed to become more business minded.

I think you may have posted in the wrong thread?

Thanks Ray.
Yes, this is the wrong thread for my comment.
It was meant for the 'summer budget' thread.
Had posted there as well.
